The Carman Family Resource Centre is a non-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is in incorporated association and a registered charity. The mission of the Carman Family Resource Centre is to provide educational and supportive services that enhance the quality of family life for residents of our community and surrounding area. We provide support resources to families and caregivers and promote nurturing relationships between parents and children by offering parent-child programs, and collaborating with existing agencies and organizations to meet program goals.

Job Description of a Carman Family Resource Centre Board Member:

  • are accountable and legally responsible for the organization
  •  should make every effort to attend all Board meetings
  •  work together to set policy and give direction
  • set the annual budget and ensure funds are in place to meet the budget
  • have the authority to hire, evaluate, and if necessary, terminate the Executive Director
  •  should take part in strategic planning
  •  monitor and evaluate the operations of the Centre
  • promote the Carman Family Resource Centre in the community
  • are representatives of the organization
  •  can present and vote on motions
  • should take part in discussions and decisions
  • should offer opinions and concerns
  • should work together for the good of the organization
  •  should publicly support all decisions made at Board meetings

This is what you can expect:

Meetings are usually held once a month, except in July and August. This includes the Annual General Meeting in February.

Our by-law requires that meetings be held a minimum of 6 times per year, so we do occasionally skip a month when there is not much on the agenda!

Meetings are being held in person at our Centre, and occasionally by Zoom. Day and time are worked out with the current board.

Board members may be asked to volunteer to help with events or programs if they are able.

All Board members are required to undergo a vulnerable sector check, as well as a child abuse registry check. There is no cost for this.

The CFRC is covered under the umbrella of the R.M. of Dufferin in regard to liability insurance; the CFRC also carries insurance policies for property, and Directors & Officers Liability. The CFRC is also covered by the Worker’s Compensation Board.
